Rehabilitation Pilates

It is safe to say that in some way, shape, or form Pilates should have a place in your life. One of its greatest benefits is the rehabilitative aspect of it. Rehabilitation Pilates is, in our opinion, the most important Pilates Method and our highest priority at Pilates by Ness. Most of us living in Denver live incredibly active lifestyles which sometimes lead to injury. Even if you don’t come to our ‘Golden Triangle’ studio with an injury, it doesn’t mean that you won't be helping yourself prevent an injury from occurring in the future.

Injuries happen, that is the long and the short of it but it doesn’t mean we have to live in pain and misery for the rest of our lives. It also doesn’t mean we should be kept from living the lifestyle we want and enjoying the activities we love to do. In your Pilates practice, you will have aspects of Rehabilitation Pilates throughout the entire session. This doesn’t mean it won’t also be challenging and fun at the same time. With the use of the springs, ropes, and other props, you are rehabilitating your body without you even noticing!

Is this Pilates Method right for me...

The Rehabilitation Pilates Method will be a combination of movements on the appropriate Pilates apparatus depending on the goals at hand. When it comes to injuries, they usually happen in one of two ways. An acute injury, meaning there was a traumatic event that caused the injury. This could be an injury from something more serious like a car accident or something like an ankle sprain from running. The second type of injury is something that happens over time such as the overuse of an area from repetitive motions or from creating poor habits. Many of us notice this as we get older especially when it comes to things like posture, walking up and downstairs, bending down to the ground, etc. Regardless of our injury or how it happened, Rehabilitation Pilates is the method for you!

To create the “Total Body Health” element that Joseph Pilates so highly recommends, you need a balance of both mobility and stability throughout the body. When these are coupled together in harmony you will feel improvements in your posture, your agility, and your overall strength. One of the most important improvements you will see with a consistent practice is your increase in body awareness. In other words, knowing and sensing where you are in space which is a huge contributor to injury prevention. Some of us were born with a heightened sense of body awareness and that great but to others, it doesn't come as naturally. Not to fret if you feel like the latter, it is absolutely something we can help you improve at Pilates by Ness.

If you have experienced either type of injury and are new to Pilates, we highly recommend scheduling at least one Private Session with Pilates by Ness. It will be imperative to your practice to keep you moving in a safe environment. Please also communicate with your physical therapist and/or doctor to make sure you are in a stage of recovery to safely start Pilates. It is best to learn in a one-on-one setting so your instructor can demonstrate and explain your modifications to you. Remember, injuries happen to a majority of the population all over the world and although they may feel debilitating at times...there is always hope. At Pilates by Ness we will do our absolute best to get you back on your feet and back to the activities and lifestyle you deserve. Join our Denver Pilates Studio today and get yourself back on track!
